Autumn/Winter 2010/2011 Trends

Ah yes, the resurgence of the blog. So many things attended and observed yet uncommented, finally prompting a revival I hope will be at least slightly more regular!
I recently attended Cotton Inc.’s Trend Forecasting presentation for A/W 10-11, and I wanted to share some of their insight on the season, especially regarding colour & textile inspiration. Their forecast falls into five themes, titled and described as the following, with a category suggestion for focus:
CHAPTER: Trend for the whole look
-The entire story and process as made up of different components and layers
Updates in quilting; appliqués; double knits; jaspé; heather yarns; sleek denim; honeycomb knit; printed twill; worksman-wear inspired materials; plaids with ruffles; pocket weave
DEVOTION: Luxury trend
-Focus on one thing at a time
Religious & gothic inspired; Lace: chunkier & thicker, printed, metallic; fair isle; stained glass; rod iron inspiration in fabric; black flocked on denim; print within a pattern; more shine in men’s shirting: metallic or mercerized thread
DYNASTY: Fashion & intimates trend
-Period and empire-inspired, escapism
Tassels; boning; autumnal palette; Art Deco/20s inspiration; delicate knits; jacquard; artistic takes on fabric; scaled down Baroque details; matt lissé; circle and pyramid patterns; subtle shine
REMEDY: Young & active trend
-Channeling science through experimentation and new discovery
Vibrant palette; graphics; updates to basket weave; irregularity in stripes; cotton luxury blends; squishy finishes like oil on denim; cloud & cosmic inspiration; circles & squiggly lines; chevron updates
SILENCE: Menswear trend
-Void of sound is the new luxury in life
Subdued colours like burnt sienna in denim; snowball effects on sweater knits and bleaced denim; soft subtle stripes; floating yarns; menswear shirting; tonal yarns; streak effects
