the lady in green

The highlight (for me and the two friends with whom I attended) of the Fashion Group International (FGI) Rising Stars Awards Luncheon on January 25 at the New York Hilton was by far getting to meet my long-time idol, Venezuelan-born, NY-based fashion designer Carolina Herrera.

She presented the award for Women’s Apparel, and we scurried after the event to meet her as she walked briskly out with her assistant. She was quintessential elegance, looking crisp and immaculate in all black. Despite her soft-spoken Columbian accent and lovely approachability, a cat clearly got my tongue because I was too star-struck to even tell her I was a designer. At least I was able to give her my admiration! There’s always next time…
